A collectively owned and operated shop, gallery, and meeting space in Göttingen, opening this Saturday! Sadly, the internet presence is not yet quite ready, but further pictures can be seen here. In the meantime, lets allow the collective to introduce itself in their own words...

"Ein neuer Stern geht auf in Göttingen: der FLAMING STAR.
In der Prinzenstrasse 18 eröffnen wir als Kollektiv einen Ort, der gleichzeitig Shop, Gallery und Raum für Projekte sein wird. Über internationale Szenenamen, wie Urbang, Fire and Flames, Mob Action, Uptight, Partisano, Red Stuff aber auch mit dem was uns schlicht und einfach gefällt, wie z.B. St. Pauli, New Balance, Copa Football und Montana Cans etc. wird ein Angebot geschaffen, dass einen eindeutigen Szenebezug mit einem breiten öffentlichen Zugang kombiniert. Streetart, Lesungen, Mobi-Veranstaltungen, stilsichere Mode und ausgewählte Musik schaffen eine Atmosphäre, in der verschiedene Subkulturen aufeinander treffen und sich hoffentlich gegenseitig bereichern.
Die Kombination aus linker Information, praktischem Zugang und einer Platzierung mitten in der Göttinger City knüpft für uns an eine Linie der Politik an, die schon immer versucht hat, die eigenen Einstellungen möglichst vielen Menschen zugänglich und verständlich zu machen.
Bewusstseinsänderungen, aber auch erste Kontakte mit „der Szene“, werden häufig durch Kultur ermöglicht. Konkret verwirklicht sich diese Idee auch darin, einen Raum zu schaffen der durch Auftritt, Aufmachung und Angebot eine direkte Bereicherung und einen konkreten Nutzen darstellt. Insofern sehen wir uns in der Tradition antifaschistischer Kulturarbeit. Auch intern leben wir diesen Gedanken durch unsere Arbeitsweise als solidarisches Kollektiv und unseren engen und beständigen Kontakt zur direkten Politik.

"A New Star is Born in Göttingen: FLAMING STAR
Flaming Star, located at Prinzenstrasse 18 in the middle of „downtown“ Göttingen, aims to be a space which is simultaneously a shop, gallery, and location for the realization of projects. Carrying not only movement related names such as Fire and Flames, Mob Action, Red Stuff, Partisano, or Urbang, but also those which represent the different passions and subcultures with which we identify, such as St. Pauli, New Balance, COPA Football or Montana Cans. We aim to create a space where political views are clearly visible, while at the same time being accesible to a broad spectrum of people.
Street art, book presentations, mobilization events, a touch of style, and an appropriate musical selection, all aim to create an atmosphere which brings different subcultures together. The combination of radical/antifascist/extra-parliamentary information, accessability, and a location in the middle of the city represent the continuation of a political tradition which has always had the objective of exposing our positions and perspectives to the largest possible amount of people.
First contacts with „the scene / the movement“ are often the result of cultural work and an active outreach to the community. Concretely, we aim to realize this through the creation of a space which, through its presentation, image, and possibilities represents a further alternative space in the city, placing us firmly in the running tradition of antifascist cultural work. Of course, we choose to mirror our ideals internally, as the Flaming Star collective is composed of politically active individuals, and non-hierarchically owned and operated."
